PIRTEK Fishing Challenge
Making a difference
2021 is the 13th year the Pirtek Fishing Challenge has supported leading medical research organisations; the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and The Peter Duncan Neurosciences Research Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital. The Pirtek Fishing Challenge has raised over $1.2 million for charity to date.
In a first for the event, the 2021 competition sees some major changes with the main one being a change from the traditional 1-day event in mid-March to a 2-day event on the 17th and 18th of April.
In Australia, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men. In 2020, there were more than 16,741 new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed in Australia, accounting for almost a quarter of all types of cancer diagnosed in men. Tragically, this resulted in 3,152 deaths, or almost 12% of all cancer deaths in Australian men.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia is a broad based community organisation and the peak national body for prostate cancer in Australia. It is dedicated to reducing the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men, their partners and families, recognising the diversity of the Australian community.
The Peter Duncan Neurosciences Research Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney has recently been lauded as the number one Neuroscience Research facility in Australia.
The focus of the Unit is to study adult stem cells and their role in causing and exacerbating neurological diseases. The goal is to find and apply new neuroscience techniques for patients suffering from diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s, and other neurological infections and stroke.
Proceeds from the Pirtek Fishing Challenge will be split between these two leading medical research organisations.
Prizes
Thanks to PIRTEK, Berkley, BCF, Mako, Lowrance, Abu Garcia, Valvoline, JBL and Snap-On, the 2021 Pirtek Fishing Challenge features incredible prize packs for the longest fish in both senior and junior sections. As well as the 'On the Water' prizes.

There are also more great prizes up for grabs in the On the Water prizes. One of the highlights of the On the Water prize is the Stacer 469 Outlaw with 75hp outboard and trailer, worth more than $36,990.
Finally, introduced in 2020, by getting 16 of your workmates together to help support our charity partners, you could win a half day guided fishing tour for four people with Michael Guest at your local waterway.
So not only are you assisting the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the Peter Duncan Neuroscience Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital, but you now have even more ways to win fantastic prizes.
